It's Contagious!

Love when teachers see the value of gamification in their classrooms. A few months ago I did a Breakout EDU activity with the 2nd and 4th graders - Let It Snow. I blogged about the experience in an earlier post.

What a super powerful moment when you check your email one night to find a request from one of your 1st grade teachers saying she is very interested in doing a Breakout EDU with her students.

That's when you literally shout - It's Becoming Contagious! Teachers are seeing the engagement, 21st Century components, and the value of bringing these types of experiences into their classrooms, and Ms. Campbell made the effort to pursue the experience on her own.

This is when the fun began. I engaged in several collaborative spaces with her to get a feel for what she wanted the Breadout EDU to tie to in her curriculum. She wanted to reinforce reading and focus on some specific math concepts of adding and/or subtracting numbers as well as <, > or = problems.

I found the perfect Breakout EDU - Froggy Gets Dressed - that would meet her curricular goals. We did tweak some clues to fit her class and curriculum specifically too. The end result was awesome!

The students really engaged in a multitude of activities throughout the session. They watched "Froggy Gets Dressed", searched, read, and uncovered 5 clues that led them to combinations on the Breakout EDU box, made Green Slime - (an activity that Froggy was dreaming about that woke him up from his winter's nap), wrote a story about what Froggy was going to do with his slime, and recorded the story with their writing into Seesaw.

This was a great experience for Ms. Campbell's 1st grade students.

Thanks Ms. Campbell for taking a risk, trying something new, and wanting to pursue a Breakout EDU. It IS contagious!
