It's always fabulous when your teachers can make a tech to literacy connection!
Mrs. Kramer - Title 1 Reading Teacher - had the opportunity to explore Ozobots in a recent technology pd. Ozobots are pocket-size coding robots that read and travel along colored lines. To control Ozobots, you have to create colored code blocks to direct Ozobot to travel on the given path.
Mrs. Kramer made a tech to literacy connection with the Ozobots. In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Mrs. Kramer’s 2nd grade Title 1 Reading classes celebrated with a Rhyme Time activity with Ozobots.
Students used their decoding skills to read and sort rhyming words. Then, they chose a cool move their Ozobot would do for each group of words that rhymed. Next, they colored the boxes by each word along the path creating a code. Finally, the fun began! Each student’s Ozobot followed the path and performed the cool move it was coded for. These included zigzagging, spinning, or even doing the back walk. Along with discovery, students expressed excitement and delight.
Students shared their experiences.
* “It was the best!”
* “It was amazing!”
* “It was cool and fun and awesome and amazing!!!!!”
* “I was like ‘Wow!’ I love it. I want to do it again.”
* “It was cool.” “I’ve never done something this fun! It was the best day of my life!”
I think it's safe to say that the Ozobots will be visiting the Title 1 classroom again!
Thanks Mrs. Kramer for not only making a tech to literacy connection but allowing it to happen for your students!
